Summary#

9+ years of research experience focusing on advanced microscopy methods and software development. I have been involved in highly interdisciplinary teams, and service provision within the fields of physics, chemistry, and biology. I enjoy developing software for image processing, hardware control, and data analytics/visualization.

Professional Experience#

SCIENTIFIC OFFICER | UNIVERSITY OF GOTHENBURG – CENTRE FOR CELLULAR IMAGING | December 2018 – present

  • Support and training of users for light microscopy.

    • Project meetings, and consultation.

    • Emphasis on super-resolution methods, such as Structured Illumination Microscopy, Single Molecule Localization Microscopy and, Airyscan.

  • Coordination of Correlative Array Tomography CAT projects within SciLifeLab

    • Scanning Electron Microscopy, and CLEM.

  • Image processing support quantification and hardware control

    • Automation and smart-microscopy

    • Machine learning and statistical analysis

    • Image J/FIJI, Napari, Python, and MATLAB.

    • Short consultation and longer projects.

  • Establishing collaborations for the development of novel microscopy methods and workflows at the facility.

  • Maintenance of microscopy infrastructure.

  • Teaching/organization of workshops and Ph.D. courses: Light Microscopy and Image Analysis.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER | KU LEUVEN | November 2014 – November 2018

  • Design & development of a microscope for 3D super-resolution imaging:

    • CAD-based design and automated hardware control (Java -µmanager).

  • Study of bacterial survival and death by antibiotics.

    • Image segmentation, shape descriptors, and machine learning for discrimination and classification (MATLAB).

  • Simulations of physical systems.

    • Light absorption and energy transfer. Monte Carlo based methods.

    • Synthetic image generation – fluorescence images, EMCCD, scCMOS.

  • Development of software tools for: Next-generation DNA sequencing, single molecule detection/tracking, intensity traces – change point detection, and super-resolution imaging.

  • Project management and supervision of bachelor, master, and Ph.D. students.

  • Instructor and organizer of a programming course for young researchers.

  • Successful grants: 3-year postdoctoral fellowship (Research Foundation Flanders); 1-year fellowship (Internal funds KU Leuven).
